Do you know how services are provided to you at the airport?

Watch our exclusive interview with the SITA Vice President for the Middle East, India and Africa, Mr. Jihad Boueri. This will give insight to passengers, airlines and airport operators across the air transport industry on how air transport processes can be seamlessly managed.

LS: Kindly give us a brief history about SITA

JB: SITA is the worldwide leading and specialist in the air transport solutions that provides IT for the air transport industry. For example, all the IT (Software and Hardware) services regarding the check in, baggage and airport management at the airport is managed by SITA. We facilitate collaboration between all the stakeholders in the air transport industry that is ground handlers, airports, airlines, and passengers. We work closely with more than 2800 air transport organizations. We are very engaged in the air travel.

LS: How will SITA’s technology position the Kotoka International Airport specifically Terminal 3 to become the preeminent hub in West Africa leading the way to passenger automation and operational efficiency?

JB: Everything is about the passenger facilitation and for the airport to be a hub, to attract airlines, the airport should provide all the facilities for the airline and the passenger so that passengers would love to travel through these airports. For passengers to come to the airport and enjoy their trip, this is where we use the technology to accomplish most of them if not all. For example, what has been installed in Ghana and most of the airports, the passenger today needs to have control of his trip. For example, how to self check in and handle his bags. So what we are providing through the IT is to facilitate all these starting from self check in, baggage and boarding. We are giving all these facilities to the passenger using the airport. In addition to this, there is a system that can track the baggage and make sure all passengers on the flight have their baggage onboard and help also in terms of transit to track the baggage using the 2D barcode reader to ensure that the baggage will reach the destination along with the customer. Another important point for a hub, is that the airlines have to be served quickly so there is an accuracy of data for the airport to keep and what is been installed is the airport management system which is like a database that captures the information ontime on real-time about all the flights coming and departing. Once this is used, the software application is used, the airport is managed efficiently and with accuracy and that will help alot with the revenue generation that will come to the airport from the airline, the ground handler and the people using the airport. So all activities are captured thereof.
