GH-Aviation is reliably informed of the delaying tactics by the National Communications Authority in renewing the radio license of Africa World Airlines.
The Airline (AWA) has had some disruptions in flight operations and according to various social media reports, it is due to the NCA's inability to renew their radio license. Sightings on one platform show AWA apologising to their valued passengers who have experienced flight delays and cancellations in the week.
"These disruptions have been forced on us by the inability of the National Communications Authority to process the timely renewal of the aeronautical radio license for one of our aircraft, resulting in the mandatory grounding of the aircraft solely for that reason". AWA applied for renewal of the radio license more than 3 months prior to expiry and paid the necessary fees to NCA by 30JUL19. However, NCA has been unable to complete the renewal of the license since then, despite multiple reminders".
"In accordance with Section 2.5 (4) of the Ghana Civil Aviation (Economic) Directives 2019, AWA will not be responsible for paying compensation to passengers affected by these flight disruptions as we believe our actions, in this case, constitute "extraordinary circumstances which could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken".
"AWA calls upon the various stakeholders in the Ministry of Communications to prevail upon NCA staff to assist in resolving the issue promptly, so that the travelling public is not subjected to continued and unnecessary disruption of their plans," the statement said.
This is an extreme hindrance in the Airline's smooth operations in serving the general public and we wish the National Communications Authority will expedite action on renewing their radio license in order for the airline to provide best passenger experience to its clients.
