Ghana and Benin signed a Bilateral Air Services Agreement in Cotonou on the 21st of November 2019.
The Deputy Minister of Aviation, Yaw Afful, signed the agreement on behalf of Ghana. According to the Deputy Minister of Aviation, “there is an existing arrangement for air transport among our two countries” but there was a need to review the contracts which was done on the 6th of december, 2016 in the Bahamas because of the “development and innovations” that had affected the sector.
He further stated that, “It is my understanding that both parties have gone through the necessary procedures to enable us sign the agreement as we are all witnessing today,”
He emphasized that Ghana “continues to have a liberal aviation policy which is geared to opening up not only the skies of Ghana but that of the sub-region and the continent as a whole”.
The high powered delegation that was at the signing ceremony were, His Excellency Leo Kaba (Ghana Ambassador to Benin), Ellis Hugh Tamakloe (Director, Ministry of Aviation), Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur (Director, Economic Regulation and Business Development , Ghana Civil Aviation Authourity), Charles Osei Mensah (Minister’s Counsellor), Merlyn Granville Gaskin (Deputy Director, Ministry of Aviation), Ramona Patience Abugabe (Legal Counsel, Ghana Civil Aviation Authority), Beatrice Biamah Donkor (Legal Counsel, Ghana Airports Company Limited)
