Top Women in Aviation have been nominated alongside female pilots and managers for the 2022 edition of the Travel 100 Awards

Winners of the prestigious and most coveted Africa Travel 100 Women Awards will be released by the organisers in September as the voting process to unveil the 2022 awardees nears the completion date.

According to the Organisers the voting for the final list of shortlisted candidates received over 5000 votes within 24 hours of opening the platform on the 22nd of August 2022.

The award which is the second edition is scheduled to hold at the 18th Akwaaba African Travel Market on October 31st – 1st November, 2022 at Eko Hotels Convention Centre, Eko Hotels & Suites, Lagos.

Organiser of the event, Mr Ikechi Uko noted that: ““First held in 2017, the Africa Travel 100 Women Awards recognizes African Women who have excelled in the area of Travel and Tourism. Some of the past winners who serve as Judges have sent in their nominations. Every African Woman in Travel and Tourism Business qualifies for these Awards. There was the initial shortlist of 30 excellent African Women chosen by some of the Judges.

More names were added until the final Short list of 168 Women.

Past winners were not eligible but they had the power to nominate someone else who was listed in 2017.”

The 2nd edition of the Award will again recognise Africa Women who have excelled in the area of Tourism Leadership, Travel & Tours, Aviation, Hospitality, Conservation & Advocacy, Youth, Media, and World Travelers.

In September 2017 over 100 Travel Professionals from all of tourism and travel converged in Lagos, Nigeria for the first edition of the Africa Travel 100 Women Awards.

The winners came from over 20 countries. It was the first time African Women in Aviation, Hospitality, Tourism and Leadership had come together to network and fraternise at an event of such magnitude.

The event at the 13th Akwaaba African Travel Market created a lot of relationships and partnerships that still stands till today bringing Africans much closer.

The Organisers are of the view that the best way to bring Africa out of the 2 years of the pandemic experience is to rebuild old partnerships and build new ones.

The reunion will bring together winners of the 2017 edition and expected new winners of the 2022 edition.

This year’s nominations and voting processes was done between May and August 2022.

Some of the past winners will serve as Judges that will select the eventual winners for the 2022 Edition.

At the event on the 31st of October there will be a B2B session for Travel Professionals.

Winners from all over Africa will be in attendance, bringing together Women Professionals in Tourism and Travels for the 2nd time.
