power outage that hit airline KLM at Schiphol airport on Wednesday afternoon, resulted in dozens of canceled flights and delays. KLM canceled a total of 68 flights, 34 departures and 34 arrivals, the airline said in a statement. Delays lasted well into the evening.

The cancelations were all return flights with destinations within Europe. The power outage also affected KLM’s service centers, which meant that the airline was temporarily unreachable by phone or online.

All passengers of canceled flights were booked onto other flights. Flights that had already departed from Schiphol when the power outage happened, were unaffected. KLM emphasized that flight safety was never compromised.

“The cause of the outage is still unknown and is being investigated”, the airline said. “We apologize for the inconvenience.”
