Africa World Airlines to suspend all flights by Monday due to covid-19 pandemic

The Ghanaian indigenous carrier, Africa World Airlines (AWA), will suspend all its flights for two weeks in “Pursuant to the movement restrictions imposed by HE The President of Ghana”.

Africa World Airlines will not operate any scheduled passenger flights between the dates of 30MAR20 and 13APR20.

In the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19), the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has put in place some measures to contain the spread of the virus in Ghana with the country recording a hundred and forty-oneĀ (141) cases as at the time of this report. “Effective 1 am on Monday the 30th of March 2020, there will be some restrictions to human movements in Accra, Kumasi, Kasoa and Tema. There shall be, during this period, no inter-city movement of vehicles and aircraft for private or commercial purposes for the areas of the restrictive measures, except for vehicles and aircrafts providing essential services and those carrying cargo”- Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The airline in a statement assured the general public that, “We intend to resume normal flight operations upon the lifting of the movement restrictions. In the meanwhile, we urge all Ghanaians to follow the necessary protocols to ensure their personal safety as well as the safety of the entire community”.
