Ghana will this year host the first ever aerospace and aviation exhibition in West Africa at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.

Dubbed the “African Airshow,” the event, which is being organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Aviation, in collaboration with Dubai-based 4M Events, is scheduled for October 24-26.

The airshow is expected to attract over 300 delegates from airlines, air transport regulators, airports and air navigation service providers, and other aviation professionals from all parts of the world.

Inaugurating a 25-member Local Organising Committee (LOC) in Accra last week, Minister for Aviation, Ms. Cecilia Abena Dapaah, said government was committed to making Ghana the aviation hub of West Africa.

Membership

Members of the committee are drawn from the Aviation Ministry; Ghana Civil Aviation Authority; Ghana Airports Company Limited; Ghana Air Force; Ghana Police Service; Ghana Immigration Service; the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority; and Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.

The rest are Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Office of National Security; Port Health; State Protocol Department; and the private sector.

The LOC, chaired by Mrs. Joyce Bannerman-Wood, is expected to work closely with 4M Events for a successful organisation of the three-day event.

Liberalisation.

Ms. Dapaah said the aviation industry in Ghana had seen a boost in recent times, a situation she attributed to the country’s liberalised aviation policies, stable political climate, and conducive business environment.

“There is, therefore, the need for us as a country to be abreast of technology to meet the dynamic demands in the aviation sector globally,” she added.

She said the airshow would thus provide a forum for interaction among stakeholders and prospective investors, in line with government’s policy of developing the country’s aviation infrastructure and services through public private partnership (PPP).

Expectation

Ms. Dapaah urged the committee to bring members’ invaluable expertise from their various backgrounds to bear on the event, since they were identified as important personalities with the requisite experiences to organise the airshow.

“The task ahead is enormous, yet the resources are limited. I will, therefore, implore you to come up with very pragmatic and innovative ideas to ensure that the event is not only successful but an event to be remembered in the annals of the aviation sector in Ghana and Africa,” she emphasized

For her part, Mrs. Bannerman-Wood thanked the minister for the confidence reposed in the LOC, pledging that the team would acquit itself well in the organisation of the event.
